THA 15B: Public Speaking - The Art of Oral Communication

    Instructor: Jennifer Cleary
    Prerequisites: None
Course Description: Public Speaking is an often-misunderstood form of communication consisting of both talking with and listening to an audience: it is a conversation. In this course, students will engage with public speaking skills and experiences through live performances. The overall course goals are for students to feel comfortable, confident, and prepared to succeed in a variety of speaking situations, to learn how to speak comfortably and effectively, and to manage any fears of public speaking through practice, discussion, and collegial support/feedback. The course is structured to allow for students to enjoy speaking, to build a caring learning community, and to learn from each other. Students will be evaluated on their contributions to the collective learning community as well as on their own individual progress.
