LGLS 189A: Business Law

    Instructor: Dan Breen
    Prerequisites: None
Course Description: May not be taken for credit by students who took AMST 189a in prior years.

Surveys core legal institutions of property, contracts, and corporations, through the use of the most important (and most interesting) cases that established the applicable rules that all business professionals ought to know. Examines not only the basics of the legal environment of business, but also delves into questions of how law promotes and restrains the development of capitalism and the market society in America, from the era of mass production through the age of global trade and digital commerce. Rather than a dry survey of legal doctrines, this class will convey essential legal rules through the stories of the people who filed the lawsuits that, through judges' rulings, gave rise to those rules.
