BIOL 42A: Human Physiology

    Instructor: Maria Miara
Prerequisites: BIOL 14a or BIOL 22a and BIOL 15b or BIOL 22b. CHEM 25a and b are recommended.
Course Description: Physiology, according to American Physiological Society, is the study of life, and how genes, cells, tissues, and organisms function. This is a great course for anyone who wants to understand how the human body works. We’ll discuss all of the body systems and look at some examples of what happens in cases of disease or illness.

Lectures are all prerecorded. You'll be evaluated based on your ability to think critically about what you've learned from lecture and apply it to the case studies we'll be reviewing. We'll also read a popular science book about the human body together. A final project will allow you to deep dive into a disease or syndrome and really understand what is happening to the body in these cases and how we treat it. This is one of my favorite courses to teach. I look forward to working with you!
