Course Description: This course will be a 10-week Asynchronous Online course for Summer 2022
Public Speaking is an often-misunderstood form of communication consisting of both talking with and listening to an audience: it is a conversation. In this course, students will engage with public speaking skills and experiences through recorded and live video presentation. The overall course goals are for students to feel comfortable, confident, and prepared to succeed in a variety of speaking situations, to learn how to speak comfortably and effectively on video (both live and recorded), and to manage any fears of public speaking through practice, discussion, and collegial support/feedback. The course is structured to allow for students to enjoy speaking, to build a caring online learning community, and to learn from each other. Connecting with other human beings in this manner is essential for personal and professional communication skills and can be done successfully online. This course is crafted as an online lab in speaking and listening. Students will be evaluated on their contributions to the collective learning community as well as on their own individual progress.
