    ENVS 21B: Oceanography

    Instructor: Sally Warner
    Prerequisites: None.
Course Description: This course provides an overview of the geology, physics, chemistry, and biology of the world’s oceans, with an emphasis on current ocean issues like sea level rise, hurricanes, ocean acidification, coral bleaching, dead zones, changing habitats, and plastic pollution. During online classes, a strong emphasis is put on peer-to-peer interactions, fluid dynamics demos, and the research of oceanographers from diverse backgrounds. Weekly assignments ask students to solve quantitative problems using oceanographic data from satellites, moorings, and undersea robots. The final project gives students an opportunity to creatively communicate the importance and urgency of a oceanographic topic of their choosing.
