    Instructor: Basil Pallimalil

Course Description: This course focuses on the sociology of mass media, specifically examining how media intersects with questions of structural inequality. We will explore how difference is constructed across race, gender, and class, and how representations in social media, television, film, and other media are connected to broader processes of inequality. As the most influential medium in the contemporary context, social media will be a central focus, examined as a site of power contestation. The course will also address questions of representation in the media.
